A nicely preserved specimen that enjoys brilliant original golden color. The strike is well defined for the issue with great detail evident in most of the stars, Miss Liberty's hair, and the eagle. Slightly proof-like surfaces create a trace of cameo contrast with the frosty devices. The surfaces are exceptionally clean at this grade level for a large gold coin struck at the historic Carson City (Nevada) Mint. There are no distracting marks, spots, stains, discoloration or notable impairments visible to the unaided eye. This specimen, certified in 1997, has been off the market since 1978. A premium quality coin for the assigned grade that will give many PCGS and NGC certified MS63s some stiff competition. Next higher grade, if you can find one, will set you back well over $28,000.
